Gdf hosts west berbice nursery school pupils at base camp ayanganna

As it continues to build statecraft partnerships, the Guyana Defence Force yesterday hosted 21 pupils, 21 parents and two teachers of the No. 8 Primary School of West Berbice at Base Camp Ayanganna.

After being welcomed to the Base by the Force’s Civ-Mil Officer, Major F Warde, the delegation enjoyed a video presentation which highlighted various aspects of life in the GDF. This was followed by an eagerly anticipated visit to the Force’s helicopter, where they learned a bit about how the aircraft was used by the Force in service to the nation. The pupils were delighted to climb into the helicopter and several expressed the desire to become pilots.

Later, they toured the Medical Corps and Dental Clinic, where they received miniature dental kits and were educated about the correct way to care for their teeth. Their teachers indicated that upon returning to school, they would repeat the demonstrations and share the information that they had received with the larger school population.

Finally, the visitors enjoyed a display by the Band Corps and were treated to snacks after which the teachers thanked the GDF for facilitating the visit and commended its leadership on its decision to host the young pupils, an activity, they said, many other organisations would routinely avoid. They also indicated that the visit was very informative and enjoyable.

In response, Major Warde said that, although the Force’s main role is to protect and maintain the sovereignty of the nation, of equal importance, is our responsibility to build and foster goodwill in communities through these kinds of activities.  He said that he was happy that the visit was a fruitful one and encouraged the visitors to return again in the not too distant future.
