Gdfhonours its administrative professionals during secretaries week

The Guyana Defence Force honoured its secretaries on Wednesday last at Appreciation Luncheons which were held at Base Camps Ayanganna and Stephenson respectively. The secretaries were also presented with tokens of appreciation.

Chief-of-Staff Commodore Gary Best congratulated the honourees for their hard work and dedication saying that, their Commanders were appreciative of their forbearing and the long hours they kept, ensuring that the job gets done. “Secretaries are the confidantes, gatekeepers, and the kind hand of their commanders,” he said, “it is imperative that they protect the confidentiality of their Officers and their offices, and shield their superiors from unwanted and unnecessary enquiries and attacks.” He noted that the role of secretaries has changed over the decades and observed that this is quite evident in the tasks performed by the Force’s secretaries, which range from taking notes, to preparing and dispatching documents, to being filing clerks, to managing the office. The COS emphasised that the modern administrative professional now included men among their ranks and was happy to see it reflected in the Force.

The luncheons, held during the internationally celebrated Secretaries Week, are a Force tradition at which the administrative professionals are honoured for the hard work and support they provide for their Commanding Officers and the various Units.
