Commodore Best was officially decorated with the Order by Brazil’s ambassador to Guyana, Luiz Gilberto Seixas de Andrade, at a ceremony marking Brazil’s Army Day on Friday. The venue was the Pegasus Hotel.
The Ambassador said that the Chief of Staff has been honoured for “…being the driving force behind more productive co-operation between Guyana and Brazil in the field of Defence”, emphasising the good relations that currently exist.
The Order of Military Merit was established by decree on July 11, 1934, and is intended to honour “…the militaries of the Army, Navy and Air Force, members of the Auxiliary Forces, Civilian and Foreigners, whom have rendered relevant services to the Brazilian Army and whom have deserved the homage of the Force.”  The Ambassador congratulated the Chief of Staff, on behalf of the President and people of Brazil, and extended best wishes for higher achievements in his career.
