This involvement is yet another demonstration of the Force’s contribution to National Development. It is envisaged that some 160 students would complete attachment within the several units of the Force by the end of the 2010 programme.

The Force’s association with the work study programme over the years has resulted in the establishment of partnerships that have been of benefit to many young people who, prior to attachment, would have, of necessity, been considering career choices.

The opportunities available in the GDF are now known to many students who have experienced the work ethic of the Force.

The management of the GDF is confident that the students who have been attached to its several departments have benefitted from their exposure to the discipline and professional working relationship that exists among soldiers.

Further, management of the Force anticipates that, as happened in previous years, several of the students on attachment will, in the near future, enlist in the Force at the level of Officers or other Ranks.

On Friday, July 23, a Graduation Ceremony was held for the first batch of students of the 2010 work study programme.

The students were charged to become useful, productive citizens and not to become miscreants. It was emphasised that Guyana needed responsible young men and women who are committed to the task of nation- building.

The graduation ceremony featured cultural performances by some of the students while others recounted the benefits of their experiences during Work-study.

The students highlighted the invaluable experiences and extensive knowledge they gained. Stephan Pearson of St Stanislaus College moved the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the Officers and Ranks of the Force for providing the graduates with such rich opportunities for personal development.

The GDF remains committed to the development of Guyana through its continued investment in career opportunities for youths.
