Commander-in-Chief lauds GDF's contribution to national development

Commander in Chief (CIC), His Excellency President Donald Ramotar praised the Guyana Defence Force for its contribution to national development when he addressed Officers and Ranks of the Guyana Defence Force on Soldier’s Day at Base Camp Ayanganna on December 20. 

Speaking to the challenges facing Guyana as a developing nation, he        emphasized that having a secure environment was absolutely necessary in order to have an environment in which real development could take place. To this end,  the CIC exhorted the GDF and all the disciplined forces to ensure that they embrace training and preparation for dealing with all security threats. “Security is no longer only about protecting our borders...there are growing threats from drug trafficking, people trafficking and other criminal enterprises,” he said. President Ramotar also implored the GDF to care for its equipment and resources.

He congratulating the Force on its pivotal role in contributing to national development, and encouraged the Officers and Ranks to continue to work hard and shoulder the sacred responsibility that they had to ensure Guyana remained safe. To the delight of the Ranks gathered, he then announced that they would receive a bonus of one month’s salary.
