Gary Best has implored members of the Guyana Defence Force to let their conduct be guided by the  Standard Operating Procedures .

The conduct of those who serve, he noted, is integral to the enduring reputation of the Force.

In a message titled," Change in our Conduct is necessary” delivered at the Thanksgiving Church Service to celebrate the Force’s 47thAnniversary , Cdre Best noted that despite the fall in societal standards and the affect these have had on the military , the onus remains on members to ensure that their conduct meet the Values and Standards of the GDF  . “At 47 years it is no     different. The challenges are the same, only the colour is different, but the solution is the same ,”he asserted.

He told the packed auditorium at Base Camp Ayanganna that the Force has undergone a number of changes , from its tactics and strategies  to training and financial management but that a change in its conduct as a leadership organization was also necessary . He pointed to  ills such as Domestic Violence , Inappropriate Inter- ranks relationships , Sexual    Harrassment and Same Sex Relationships  which are imported through recruitment, but , noted that the Force could not be what society dictates , rather it has a duty to act responsibly . “ As an organization I      believe we have a corporate social responsibility to act in a manner befitting the charge of leading and defending this nation .. each of us have a personal social responsibility to act in a manner that meets the requirements of the Force ,” he added.    The Force’s own Values and Standards Handbook laid the foundation for the COS’s presentation as he quoted the Five Core values ; Duty , Discipline , Identity , Integrity and Loyalty , which he said underpins the collective responsibility of all who serve . “They are the foundation of our teamwork and if one of them is missing, the team and its  mission will be threatened. They influence the subculture of the Guyana Defence Force and contribute to the positive image of the Force, “he noted.

Officers, Other ranks and Civilian employees of the Force together with special invitees including the Heads and Representatives of sister services, celebrated with the Force in this milestone. Assistant Pastor of the First Assembly of God Church , Reverend Winston Assannah delivered the spiritual message.
