Gdf library rededicated

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Monday, last, marked its 45th anniversary in service to the nation, with a rededication ceremony of its Military Reference Library at Camp Ayanganna, Thomas Lands.
Education Officer, Captain Christine Bradford, stated that the library, which has served the force for more than two decades, recently received “much-needed” renovations. It is now fully air-conditioned and has a full complement of staff, including recently trained personnel.
Captain Bradford said that the library will continue to provide reference services for members of the force and also give major support to the hundreds of soldiers who are set to pursue studies through the recently-launched “Academic Education Programme”.
She indicated that the library will be extending other services such as photocopying, computer and internet services. She added that while the emphasis is on encouraging enhanced academic achievements among officers and other ranks, the Military Reference Library will always play a vital role.
The Captain said that the library must be seen as “invaluable” and the institution should be used wisely.
The library which opened its doors in November 1970 as part of the education unit, has over the years provided the opportunity for numerous officers and ranks of the force, that are pursuing military and academic studies, to source relevant reference material and also to benefit from leisure reading.
