Command changes at Base Camp Stephenson

Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Wilbert Lee has formally taken command of Base Camp Stephenson - BC (S), becoming its 38thCommander. He has taken over from Lieutenant Colonel Leylon Saul, who is slated to take over the Command of Base Camp Ayanganna.

The change of command was formalized on March 28, 2012 in the presence of Chief of Staff Commodore Gary Best and several officers and other ranks, at a simple yet significant, Change of Command Parade at Base Camp Stephenson, Timerhi.Following the review of the parade, Lt Col Saul handed over the Unit’s Colours to its new Commander.

In farewell remarks, Lt Col Saul expressed appreciation to the Force’s hierarchy for entrusting him with the opportunity of serving the troops at BC (S). He said that the experience has reinforced his belief in the necessity for team work, adaptation, evolution and change. Lt Col Saul also thanked his staff for their invaluable contribution and noted that they had contributed to his personal and professional development. To this successor, he acknowledged that there was still more to be done with regard to achieving the highest possible standards of regimentation.

Accepting command, Lt Col Wilbert Lee said he was initially surprised after learning of his new designation. However, he noted that he was grateful for the timing of his opportunity to Command the Base adding that it will allow him to embrace two concepts around which he has engendered his growth as an Officer. These, he said, were his intention to learn from every experience coupled with his dedication to serving with diligence wherever he is sent. Lt Col Lee also pledged to be the ethical officer which the Force expects him to be and to lead the Officers and Ranks under his command. He urged those posted at the Base to continue to appreciate the role they play in promoting vital service and admonished them to give of their best always.
