Lean Six Sigma Training

  Several Officers, Warrant Officers and Civilians of the Guyana Defence Force are undergoing Lean Six Sigma training, which is currently being conducted at Base Camp Ayanganna. To date, three cohorts comprising  all the senior officers, Lieutenant Colonels, Majors and Captains and Civilian employees have attended the mandatory, comprehensive three -day workshops.

Six Sigmais a business management strategy originally developed by Motorola, USA in 1986. Six Sigma seeks to improve the quality of management and uses a set of quality management methods aimed at minimizing waste and engender higher levels of efficiency in output and outcomes. To this end, when the training is done, it is geared toward the creation of special organizational human resource infrastructure. The focus of the GDF’s Lean Six Sigma training is to enable all the participants to:

¨ embrace a common thread to unite staff in working together to achieve shared goals, allow staff from the various Units to carry forward the pride in their organization's heritage, but still come together as one team,

¨ encourage teamwork where people are encouraged to share ideas with each other to solve problems and facilitate decision-making based on available andpertinent data.

         It is aimed at providing GDF’s management with a methodology that achieves the fastest rate of improvement in stakeholders’ satisfaction, cost, quality, process speed, and invested capital. A fourth cohort comprising Majors, Captains and Warrant Officers and Civilians commenced training on March 20.
