Refurbished Pool at Base Camp Stephenson

The Guyana Defence Force’s swimming pool at Base CampStephenson, Timerhi looks as good as new once again, thanks to significant renovation works done by the members of 4 Engr Bn. The pool and its environs have been enhanced and is once again available for (limited) use by Units of the Force.

According to CO 4 Engr Bn,  Lt Col Lawrence Fraser, the works are being done in two phases. Phase one commenced in 2008 and works undertaken include the tiling of the pool, removal and replacement of the old filtration system with modern filters and pumps; cleaning of the drain pipe and installation of a vacuum system, filling, cleansing and treatment of the water, construction and painting of new benabs and the painting of the benches. Phase two will see the construction of a diving platform, lifeguard chair, bar, stage and live entertainment area.

Most recently, the pool itself was a ‘star venue’ when the Swimsuit Segment of the recently concluded Ms. GDF 2012 pageant was hosted there. As in the past, the pool will also be utilized for the training of our troops.
